Mandy Herman ~ Humboldt and District Ambulance Service
Mandy Herman is an EMT-Advanced with Humboldt and District Ambulance Service. Growing up Mandy always knew she wanted to do something involved with helping people. She has always been a very compassionate, caring person who knew how to problem solve and communicate well with others. She came from a fairly busy family and farming background and is the youngest of three girls in her family. Family has always been important to Mandy. No matter her busy schedule, she always tries to make time for them.
Mandy has worked at Humboldt and District Ambulance for just over four years. She started her EMS career fairly young and right out of high school. She previously worked for Wald Ambulance Service as well as Strasbourg EMS prior to coming to Humboldt. She enjoys coming to work and not knowing what to expect, along with the challenges in pre-hospital care that may come. Her career in the industry has spanned about 7 years to date, and she could not see herself doing anything else.
Along with her team, Mandy provides emergency care to those in need. Whether it is administering emergency medications, I.V fluid therapy or airway management, they strive to do their best to help improve patient outcome. They work closely with the local Hospital, RCMP, Fire department and First Responders; team work is very important.
Along with providing emergency care to patients, part of her job is to help educate the public on safety and awareness. Recently she has started writing articles for The Humboldt Journal as well as giving free inspections on car seats. Over the last 2 years she has been helping promote “the right fit” with SGI. There are many new parents out there and a lot of different car seats to pick from. All of these seats are different and can be confusing or overwhelming to install.
EMS is not just about dealing with the emergencies at the time, it is about promoting safety and educating the public before the emergency occurs.
